I purchased a 5 year old QH Mare 3 months ago. When we tried her out she was riding with a hackamore. I want her to ride with a bit as the plan is for her to be our 5 year old granddaughters horse in a year or so, when she has a few more miles. Plus she will probably need a bit if she does anything with 4-H later.I purchased a 5 year old QH Mare 3 months ago. When we tried her out she was riding with a hackamore. My daughter is a 3rd year rider with the Westerners, the largest equine drill team in the world. They're based in the Denver area. We purchased an athletic 5 year old quarter horse just for this discipline. He's willing, great around all the chaos and really seems to enjoy the fast pace and the drill team discipline.
