I am looking to purchase a new horse this Saturday and the owner tells me the horse has Larva in her left eye from her long life in the Western states. She says her vet told her this was nothing to worry about and to keep the horses eye from watering and gooing up to give her Ivomectin every other month and she would be fine.

Have you heard of anything like this before? The owner told me the name of this "disorder" or "disease", I really don't know which to call it, it is Mico-something.

Anything you can offer about this will be a great help to me whether or not I purchase her.

Thank you
Donna Adams

Donna:

This is a horse with a problem. There is no such treatment as giving ivermectin every other month for eye problems. This horse most likely has Moonblindness (see the article from about two month back) and you need to have a vet check this horse out good as you might be buying a lot of problems.

Thanks,
Dr. Lowder
