Appaloosa Horse Club Schedules Trail Rides for 2005

Get ready to saddle up for the Appaloosa Horse Club's 2005 trail rides. This year, the ApHC has scheduled four exciting rides for Appaloosa enthusiasts who love riding their horses on scenic trails: the Apache Land, Land of Liberty, Chief Joseph and Sheltowee.

Ride participants will enjoy trail riding in some of America's most beautiful and historical areas. Each ride will provide participants with many opportunities to relax, socialize and create wonderful memories.

The 2005 trail riding season begins with the Apache Land ride held May 8-14 in the enchanting Zuni Mountains near Gallup, New Mexico. Riders will experience the history of the Zuni, Hopi, Pueblo and settler relics that still remain. The ApHC welcomes all breeds of horses on this wagon-wheel-type trail ride with a base camp.

This year's Land of Liberty Family Trail Ride, held June 12-18 at the Flying W Ranch, will take participants into the pristine Allegheny National Forest near Kellettville, Pennsylvania. This all-breed, wagon-wheel-type ride features a variety of entertainment, including activities for all ages.

Since 1964 registered Appaloosas have trekked the Chief Joseph Trail Ride, the premier historic ride of the year. The ride retraces the 1,300-mile journey the Nez Perce and their Appaloosas took during their flight from the U.S. Cavalry in 1877. For 13 years, the week-long Chief Joseph Trail Ride covers a section of this path. This year's ride will cover the second leg of the ride in the picturesque Northwest from Tolo Lake to the Whitebird Battlefield Loop, July 17-23.

The trail riding season concludes October 2-8 with the Sheltowee ride taking place at the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. Guests may ride portions of the 269-mile Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail. Each day 's ride will leave participants breathless as they view deep gorges, whitewater rivers, cool streams, and a variety of wildlife.

The Appaloosa Horse Club is the international breed registry for Appaloosa horses and is located in Moscow, Idaho. Since 1938, the ApHC has been dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the breed. Agile, intelligent and distinctively colorful, Appaloosas excel in a variety of events and are beloved around the world for their even temperaments and reliability.
