True to Life Cowboy Spotlighted on HorseCity.com

Posted: Monday, February 2, 2009

If you want to find a true to life cowboy working in Maryland, you need look no further than Gunpowder Stables on Philadelphia Road in Kingsville.

Well known to the forums on HorseCity.com and NoWorriesclub.com, William H. Coffman AKA HistoryRider posts an average-- between the two networks-- about 2 posts a day throughout the year. He has absolutely galvanized board readers to get on the "ground and move those feet". He implores individuals to create more effective body language and to imprint their horses with a routine that will provide an endearing relationship between human handler and equine.

Being a prolific board writer and advisor, William developed his knowledge base independent of a formal learning atmosphere. He has spent hours, upon hours, watching RFD-TV and DVD's of training techniques and natural horsemanship. Following the guidelines of Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson, Craig Cameron, Ryan Gingerich, Robert Liner and others, William stored away a knowledge base that he utilizes everyday. He reads trade magazines, articles and books by well known horse enthusiasts such as GaWanI Pony Boy. The pool of time required to do anything other than something horse related has ran completely dry. Time management is an elusive concept to William and anything that is not horse related has been backburnered for his horsemanship.

Simply Google him. He reads like a world renowned trainer. In my eyes, he is, but he is a simple horse fanatic. William has been working around horses pretty much all of his life-- since childhood. It was not until around 2003, that his companionship with one particular horse became a lifestyle altering boon.

He was gifted with an APHA paint gelding that was born in Minnesota in June of 1999. His sire was Domino Delivers and the damn was Knight's Unknown. The tobiano was named Domino's Knight by the owners at Rancho de Caballo in Minnesota. Domino, a gelding descendent, is now William's well known accomplishment.

It does not stop there --however. Since 2003, the heroes of William's world mentioned above have morphed him into the ultimate "everything horse" advocate. He attends clinic after clinic in search of his dream. William's dream is to be acknowledged for his self acquired talent and equine knowledge. He loves sharing his world with everyone.

The spotlight is on you, William. The "downunder" and "downhome" touch that you bring to the simple enjoyment of horses is appreciated by those that have used your advice and improved their relationship with their horse.

Excerpt from Horsecity.com bulletin boards post August 2007 Historyrider ( William Coffman) writes:
"Everyone loves validation. At some point or another a horseman or woman wants to share with other like minded people about what they know. What did Mark Twain perhaps say, "You don't know how dumb a person is until you know where they are standing?" ... Take a hundred years or so back and I'm sure the neighbor's kid would have known more about horses and wagons then any of us. They were your great grandparents. By posting our suggestions and advice to novice horse owners we put up a little post-it note up on the barn door for all to see. To read and critique I might add. So our bulletin board becomes our ally in placing value on our own equis beliefs. I have my horse to talk to all the time but it's like-minded humans that seem to elude me locally... But routine is routine and horses get used to anything that they are exposed to with consistent repetition. I think clinicians have gotten rich off this concept... If a horse is used to riding from the porch to the mailbox and back every day he will show up to pick you up at the right time"
