Jackson Land and Cattle purchases NCHA Futurity Champion Peptoboonsmal

Posted: Friday, March 2, 2007

Jackson Land and Cattle announced today that it has completed the purchase of Peptoboonsmal from Larry Hall Cutting Horses. Peptoboonsmal is a 1992 red roan stallion sired by Peppy San Badger and out of the great mare Royal Blue Boon. He is 15 hands in size with an impressive performance record including a win at the 1995 NCHA Open Futurity. He has been a top 5 cutting sire in every year since his first full foal crop showed in 2001.

Jackson Land and Cattle and Peptoboonsmal: Next Chapter in a Legacy
The purchase of Peptoboonsmal marks the end of an era for one family and the start of an exciting future for another. For 15 years, "Pepto" has been an integral part of the Hall family. Owner Elaine Hall named Peptoboonsmal and has run Larry Hall Cutting Horses with passion and skill since 1995. In December, 2006, Elaine was honored at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame for her recently published memoir Loving Larry, the story of her husband's death and their lives raising some of the world's finest cutting horses.

Parting with this special horse has been far from easy for the Hall family, but the recent purchase by Richard Fields and Jackson Land and Cattle marks the next step on the continuum of the extraordinary life of this famous horse. Peptoboonsmal will be a cornerstone in the cutting horse operation at Jackson Land and Cattle. "We are honored that Elaine Hall has allowed us to acquire Peptoboonsmal and are excited about the future. Peptoboonsmal's bloodline, quality and depth of sired horses make him a perfect addition to the Jackson Land and Cattle breeding and cutting horse operation," according to Richard Fields, owner of Jackson Land and Cattle. Fields states "The combination of a stallion like Peptoboonsmal and a legacy ranch like Jackson Land and Cattle only comes along once in a lifetime. " Located on 2,000+ acres in the historic Spring Gulch corridor of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Jackson Land and Cattle is steeped in ranching tradition and home to a premier cutting, roping and working cow horse operation. Since the turn of the century, this land has been home to a working cattle ranch still operated today by the fourth generation of the homesteading family. The cutting, roping and working cow horse operations were added three years ago and compliment the western ranching heritage that defines the Spring Gulch corridor of Jackson Hole.

Premier Cutting Horse Operation
Jackson Land and Cattle is managed by Rick Overstreet who brings over 20 years cattle and ranch management experience to the property and specializes in the working cow horse and sport cow operations. The cutting horse operation is under the leadership of Al Dunning of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jackson, Wyoming. Al has owned and operated a Quarter Horse training facility since 1970 and has won numerous World Championships. In 1996, Al was named the AQHA Professional Horseman of the Year in recognition of his long and accomplished career. "With Al's training expertise, Peptoboonsmal's role in the cutting horse breeding operation and the extraordinary facilities and resources of Jackson Land & Cattle and Richard Fields, we have a tremendous opportunity ahead of us" states Rick Overstreet, Ranch Manager.

Partnership with Carol Rose Quarter Horses
Peptoboonsmal will continue to stand at Carol Rose Quarter Horses located in Gainesville, Texas. Carol Rose is the #1 all-time leading AQHA breeder of performance horses and a perennial leading NRCHA and NRHA breeder. Carol Rose has bred foals earning more than 28,900 AQHA points, averaging 38 points per foal and 92 points per point earner including 49 AQHA World and Reserve World Championships. In 2001, Carol was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, honored as a role model and ground breaker for women in the equine industry. Jackson Land and Cattle Owner Richard Fields states, "We are privileged to have Peptoboonsmal continue to stand at Carol Rose and trust that under Carol Rose's stewardship, Peptoboonsmal will continue to deliver exceptional results for Jackson Land and Cattle. We look forward to a long working relationship with Carol Rose."
