Short list, alternates, named for 2002 WEG eventing squad

The horses and riders named to the short list, in alphabetical order by rider, for the Eventing World Championships to be held at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, September 11-22 are as follows:
Darren Chiacchia of Springville, NY on Colleen Hofstetter's R.G. Renegade, Nina Fout of Middleburg, VA on 3 Magic Beans, Gina Miles of Creston, Ca on Thomas Schulz's McKinlaigh, David O'Connor of The Plains, VA on Jacqueline B. Mars' Giltedge, Karen O'Connor of The Plains, VA on Jacqueline B. Mars and Mr. And Mrs. Richard Thompson's Regal Scot, Amy Tryon of Redmond, WA on Poggio II or Leigh Mesher's My Beau, Kim Vinoski of Scottsville, VA on Plain Dealing Farm's Winsome Adante, and John Williams of Middleburg, VA on Carrick.

Named as alternates, in alphabetical order by rider, are:
Darren Chiacchia of Springville, NY on Power Ty, Bruce Davidson, Sr. of Unionville, PA on Joan Heymann-Bergmann's Apparition, Bruce Davidson, Jr. of Unionville, PA on First Class Syndicate's Class Touch, Beale Morris of Middleburg, VA on Pathfinder, Bonnie Mosser of Coatesville, PA on Jenga, David O'Connor of The Plains, VA on Xandrius LLC's Custom Made, Natalie Rooney of San Marcos, CA on Aladdin, and Kim Vinoski of Scottsville, VA on Plain Dealing Farm's Royal Venture.

Those named to the list will participate in a series of training sessions with USET Chef d'Equipe Captain Mark Phillips over the next two months. The training sessions will be held in Montana, Virginia and Pennsylvania. All short-listed horse rider combinations and alternates will then be required to participate in a Mandatory Short List Outing in The Plains, Virginia on August 16-17.

Following the Mandatory Short List Outing, the USET will ship eight short-listed horses to England for additional training with Captain Phillips. On September 9, the final squad of seven horses will be named and will travel to Spain for the Games. The selection of the four horse-and-rider combinations that will ride on the team and the two horse-and-rider combinations who will compete as individuals will be made after arrival in Spain.
