Each piece is acrylic on canvas, but they are uniquely created because Raynes sometimes chooses to paint with her hands instead of brushes. She also uses unique colors for each horse that creates a thermal feeling. "I love being able to use alternative colors," Raynes noted. "Rather than a dog being brown and white I see it in other colors, and as I'm painting it's changing constantly. I put the colors on the palette and my arm and paint brush feel like they have a mind of their own, like an out of body experience. I feel it truly is a gift." Raynes became involved with Reining By The Bay through Pat Warren in 2000. "Since the first image that I created for Reining by the Bay I have loved the event," she said. "I look forward to it every year and cannot wait for the next one. When Reining By The Bay ends everyone starts talking about the next painting and the next image that they want to use. It is usually a very extreme picture that they want to recreate and I cannot wait for the challenge." During this year's competition Raynes will be onsite producing artwork and showcasing her unique style of painting with her hands. This will be an exciting opportunity for spectators and potential customers. "I will usually start and finish a painting at an event because it gives the customer an emotional link to the piece," stated Raynes. "It's become a part of them as well as a part of me." "I love creating work for Reining by the Bay," Raynes continued. "I attend a lot of horse shows and I see people with Reining By the Bay t-shirts on and I'm proud to be a part of it. I have people asking when next year's image is coming out and what will it be. Some people say they collect the images, and it's funny because, wow, my work in unison with Reining By The Bay has grown to be collectible; that part is fascinating to me. Reining By The Bay is an iconic event." To learn more about Jen Raynes and view samples of her work please visit http://jenraynesstudio.com.
